Opening Title Sequence Analysis - Sexy Beast

In the opening sequence of the film 'Sexy Beast' the camera is above the man as he starts to mumble to himself about the heat. He is seen wearing a chain, watch, and earrings as well as sunglasses and on top of that, he is in a nice villa and can afford a pool boy. This use of mise en scene and the close up camera angles on his accessories conveys the message to the audience that this man is definitely wealthy. Also, the way the man speaks and his cockney accent is some sort of criminal. In addition, the non diegetic punk background music reinforces this idea that he is a gangster.

We can propose the idea that this man ands the woman driving in the car are in a relationship. First, he is wearing a ring. Second, there is a side shot of the man lying next to the pool which has two hearts in it. Then, the clip cuts straight to her driving. We also see this later on in this sequence, when the man gets a boulder rolled over his head, the clip cuts to her driving away in the midsts of his confusion. The right to left camera angle suggests that she is driving away. With this piece of information, we can also infer that she was the one that rolled that boulder. Finally, with all the information we have been given from the opening sequence, we can infer that the man and woman have a very weird relationship.

Opening Title Sequence Analysis - The Shining

In the opening sequence of the film, The Shining, a Stanley Kubrick production, the film starts out with a wide tracking shot that sets the scene and makes us feel isolated. We can see that the setting of this film takes place in a remote mountain range far from civilization. Also, the long shot duration shows how long they have been traveling for which amplifies the fact that they are off the map. To add to my point, there is barely any traffic, and the cars are coming from the opposite direction. This adds to the effect of seclusion by making the viewers see that people are trying to get away from this place, and that no one will be accompanying the family in the yellow car.

In the next part of the opening sequence, we see the credits role in. These credits are in big bold blue letters and the names of the people who worked on the film are right in front of our names. This is to distract us from what is actually going on so that the audience doesn't get bored of the long car drive. Also, some of the people that worked on the film are big names. If you are midway through the opening sequence then see a big name like Stanley Kubrick, you would want to continue watching.

In the opening sequence the use of music in the film adds a very sinister tone to the sequence. We have a beautiful clip playing but on top of it is a menacing track. This makes the viewers think that the hotel the family will be staying in is not a good place and that evil things will be going on there. But, the music does lure the viewers in as well. The music is the biggest reason why I wanted to continue watching. The family in the yellow car being the only car in their lane whilst the other lane has a few cars driving away adds to the illusion of being lured in.

The use of camera angles, credits, and music adds to the ominous tone of this movie creating the theme of isolation.

Welcome to my Blog

Heyyyy my name is Jake Morosini and this is an introduction to my media blog.

The A-Levels I am studying are: Media Studies, Photography, and Sociology. I am in love with all of these subjects and I am really happy I picked them! I definitely wanted to take Media Studies when I was choosing classes. I've always had an interest in writing, but I was getting sick of writing about poems and books. So, I chose media studies. I am very much into all kinds of forms and media, and having to write about them in school seems like something in school I would actually enjoy for once. At least, I hope 😅. My favourite film is definitely Wild Child. I just love everything about it! My favourite Tv Series is for sure American Horror Story. I also take interest in Reality Tv. Maybe you'll see me there one day!

I am from California but have been in England since 2019 for school! I've always loved

traveling the world and am such a lover of seeing new places that I just had to study abroad! And to this day I say it is the best decision I have ever made. I have made so many new friends from all over the world that I know will last a lifetime! Back in California lives my family. I have two wonderful parents, my mom Amy and my dad Tony. I also have a twin brother named Nick, and no - we aren't identical. We're practically polar opposites. I have a little brother named Anthony who can be the living form of a devil sometimes, but I still love him to death. I have a dog named Duke and a rabbit named Buttercup. Duke is the cutest thing ever and I might even miss him more than anyone in my family! In the Caribbean lives my Nonna. She is the biggest inspiration in my life! I love her to pieces and if I could go anywhere in the world right now I would go and see her.

I am definitely a bit of an adventurous person. Wether it's a night out in the city or going on a hike I am always down to do something. I love seeing new places and exploring this world we live on! I love going out with my friends whenever I can. I want to live my life to the fullest and do it with the people I love!

When I grow old and get a job I for sure want to do something in the film industry. I am very into video editing so maybe I will go into that involves that! Who knows, I could be editing the next biggest hit in the future. I don't know where I want to go to university. I am thinking either University of Southern California or New York University. I want to live in Southern California but also do a lot of traveling. I want to see the world.

That's me! I hope I didn't bore you to death. Have a great day ☺
