Final Day of Editing

 Final Day of Editing

For my final day in the editing suite, my group finalized everything and cleaned our sequence up. We changed the speed of the credits because they were really fast. We also moved them around to have them spread out throughout the entire sequence. We then added the title at the end. We used a technological font and added a typing effect on the text to really make it stand out.

Editing Day 3

 Editing Day 3

For my groups third day of editing, we made a lot of progress. We edited during our class time and when we had free time.

We are about halfway done with the edit. Today, we incorporated one of our screen recordings - the one of the mouse hovering over the email link. We want to incorporate this in the edit because it would look really good to show what our hacker was actually doing on the screen.

Editing Day 2

 Editing Day 2

Today was my groups second day of editing our opening title sequence.

We tried to put the beginning of our sequence together. At first, we didn't follow the storyboard because  we wanted to see what it would look like if we edited it differently. But then we decided to try and put the

clips together in the order of our story board. It did not look that great and it was really choppy and didn't flow well together.

There was some tension in our group because we wanted to do things differently we could come to an agreement. Hopefully on Monday we can all agree and just edit our sequence without any disruption.

Editing Day 1

 Editing Day 1

Today was my groups first day of editing our opening title sequence!

We looked at our rushes and picked out the our best scenes. Since we shot so many times, there were so many scenes to choose from, so we had a difficult time narrowing it down. We made two folders, one for each part of the sequence. This is so that we can be organized when it came to the actual editing part.

We did not get much editing done today. We just rewatched our clips and tried to put the beginning of it together, but we ran out of class time to we did not get to accomplish much.

Hack + Map

 Hack + Map

Why

For my group’s opening title sequence, we also wanted to visibly show our hacker hacking the scammers.

How

I recorded myself typing from the hacking simulator (https://hackertyper.net/) for forty seconds. Then, I copy and pasted text from the code and went on google maps and pasted in an address and slowly zoomed in on it. I took the footage and put it in Adobe After Effects, an editing software I have been using for three years and put combined it all and I also added the effect ‘S_TVDamage’ to give it lines that make it look like it would belong in a film about hacking.

Google Maps

I decided to use google maps because it shows the audience that you can use simple software avail bile to everyone to do big things like hacking. If this were a real film, stereotypically young boys would be inspired by this and may want to pursue a career in computer software or go into the tech industry because you don’t need big expensive software to do anything. My group also decided on the location to zoom in

Outcome

I am happy with the final outcome of this video. It fits perfectly with our sequence and I am excited for everyone to see what I made.

History of opening titles and credits research task

History of Opening Titles and Credits Research Task

A title sequence is a video and audio presentation of a film's or television show's title, main development and cast members, or both, using conceptual graphics and sound. It normally comes after, so it's not to be confused with the opening credits, which are usually just a bunch of superimposed text.

Films can only display titles at the start of their runs in the early days of the industry. People began to recognise some of the stars in the films they were watching on a daily basis, and they became fans of those performers. Soon, movies will begin with a short list of actors' names, labeled the opening credits. Most films didn't start using end credits until 1970. The auteur theory, a theory that believes that the director is the main person behind the film, is what started this practice.

Order of Opening Credits:

  1. Company Logo
  2. Recognizable Names
  3. Supporting Cast Members
  4. Important Crew Members
Order of End Credits:

  1. Director
  2. Writer
  3. Producer & Executive Producer
  4. Actors
  5. Crew Members
  6. Others

Production companies logos have changed a lot  throughout the years. The first major change is the shift from 2D text to 3D. Also, the change from black and white to colour is really prominent and shows how much better quality there is now compared to 100 years ago.

The film 'Hacker' [also known as Anonymous] (2016) showed pictures of a computer room where the audience can presume is where all of the computer work and hacking is done. They used very modern text and also incorporated effects like glitches to really sell the theme of hacking.

I can take inspiration from this opening title sequence because I want to use modern text for our opening. I also want to incorporate bits of our actor hacking to really show the audience that this is what our film is about.

What kind of media institution might distribute my media product and why?

A media institution is a company that manages and publishes various types of media. A publishing organisation is typically a massive global corporation, such as a film production company, a recording label, a newspaper publisher, or a magazine publisher. BBC, Disney, Marvel, The Guardian, and many more are well-known examples of media institutions.

This is a film aimed at a similar demographic to the one we're attempting to target. 'Hacker' [also known as Anonymous] is a film that was released in 2016 that is focused on real events. It's about a young man whose family is having financial problems, which leads him to turn to crime as a means to help his family out, but he then becomes more and more interested with this crime. This film, in particular, had a budget of $2,000,000, making it a low-budget production. Younger boys who are interested in technology and like criminality will be the perfect fit for their target demographic. Boys are obsessed with games and computers in this era, but this is a film that would cater to younger boys because they have similar equipment and may believe they are capable of hacking at this stage. This could also be relatable to people who have been hacked before, providing a sense of comprehension for the film.

In the United States, Sony Pictures distributed 'Hacker,' and the film did reasonably well. After Sony Pictures was hacked and targeted in 2014, I find it fascinating that they will release a film about hacking.

Target Audience

 Target Audience

Genre

The target audience for my group's opening title sequence would revolve around people that are interested in action and crime film movies.

Crime film is a genre that revolves around the actions of a criminal. Our main character is very good with computers, and is into various forms of hacking and manipulation through the use of technology. This would be relatable to people that are into the use of technology. This movie's genre could also be thriller, as it makes you wonder, 'what will happen next?' There is also a heightened sense of anticipation, suspense and surprise.

Demographic

The film would also be targeted towards teenagers and young adults. This is because the film centers around a university student who has to do criminal deeds using technology to make money. This is relatable to a lot of working class teenagers and young adults as they can relate to the struggle of trying to get by. Young boys who are into video games would also be interested in this film because this story revolves around computers and programming. Also, more heterosexual males would want to watch this because the tech industry is dominated by straight men.

Psychographic Profile

People who are considered 'nerdy' or 'geeks' would be a profitable audience to market towards. This is because they are stereotypically more into coding and hacking. People who want to make money through working with computers would be marketed towards as well.

Shoot Day

 Shoot Day

Yesterday we had our shoot! There was a lot of pre planning that went into it and in the end it worked out. The day before our shoot we decorated one of our rooms. We got items from all of our rooms and set the scene. But, on the day of filming we changed it a lot because it was 'too neat' to be a university students room, so we had to make it very messy and we only used half the size of the room to make it smaller.

Then It was time to shoot. When I first woke up I was really excited because we spent so much time planning our opening sequence and it was finally time to shoot. I was also nervous because I wanted the day to be as perfect as possible. When I arrived for the shoot, I was pretty prepared. My group had our shot-by-shot plan and we gave the actor's their scripts. Before we could start shooting, we had to come into school to print it all out then we had to go to the studio and take all of our equipment back to the room we were shooting our first scene in. When my group and I decorated the room it was pretty neat and we used the whole space of the room. But, when we arrived on shoot day we had to make it look very messier. We made the sink look very gross by combining and spilling a bunch of liquids in it. We also had to use mine and Lily's computers because there were no other available computers around.

On the shoot day, we each took turns directing, using the cameras, and using the microphones. We did this because we all wanted to have a taste of of what it would be like to do each role. I think I did a very good job of making known what I wanted to happen, as well as listening to my peers and stepping back when needing too. When you are in an environment like that, it can be very stressful because you all want the shoot to be perfect but you all may not have the same ideas on how you can achieve that.

The most successful part of the shoot was definitely filming the three scammers. Filming in the student's room took almost three hours because of the variety of shots and all the actions we had planned. The scammers was much easier because there were not as many angles we could film from and we also had the experience of filming the first part so it ran smoothly. I wish the first part of the shoot had gone better. There was some miscommunication at first and everyone was so excited and nervous that everyone was a little on edge. We spent so much time filming the same things over and over again, and had we just communicated more clearly we wouldn't have had too.

I enjoyed filming the three scammers the most because we got to get a lot of cool shots on them. We also got close ups of them going in and out of focus and that was a fun feature I learned. I am looking forward to edit in all of the videos my group made pre-production. We filmed CCTV beforehand and I made a Hacking and Map video using Adobe After Effects which turned out really well. My group put a lot of time in the pre production and I am excited to incorporate it all.

My team worked really great together. There were obstacles but we overcame them by voicing our ideas and then listening to others. It was fun to be able to work on a project like this with my friends. I also think the fact that we did not get to work together in person until April really slowed us down and made it more challenging. But when we were all reunited after four months we worked really hard everyday on this production.

There are a few lessons I learned that would make my next shoot successful. Teamwork is really important and if you cannot work well with others your shoot will be a disaster. So, to listen to others ideas and work together to come up with something everyone is happy with will benefit everyone in the future. Also, making sure you know what you are doing 100% before you film. Although we came in feeling prepared, there was still some things that we should have finalized before the shoot day.

Shoot day went really well, and I am excited to see how our final product turns out.

Research Into Filming Roles

Filming Roles

In order for my group's opening sequence to be effective, we need to know about all of the filming roles.

In film, the director plays an important role in developing the vision. They direct the film crew and actors to achieve their goals by controlling the artistic arrangement of the film. As a manager, you must be able to advise people what to do in order to get the best results.

It is important to have the right picture and what the director needs while working as a camera person. This requires you to approach the situation with an open mind, understanding that you won't be able to do all you want, but also making recommendations to improve the shot. Since filming can be challenging, it necessitates a high level of concentration. This is due to the fact that you must take the best shot possible while maintaining consistent lighting in the frames.

In the film industry, the editor plays a crucial part in tying the whole shoot together. The content of the

final product is determined by the editor's abilities. Cutting clips that make it sound like one continuous move, as well as cutting it to make it look like people are conversing, etc. This is very useful for both the production crew and the editor while the editor is on set. For the editor, they get a sense of what the director is looking for in the scene. The editor will then point out problems that can't be changed in post-production to the crew.
